HOW TO USE THIS DOCUMENT
------------------------

To view Readme.txt onscreen in Notepad, maximize the Notepad window.

To print Readme.txt, open it in Notepad or another word processor, 
and then use the Print command on the File menu.

For system administrators who maintain a Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 95 
network installation site, you should read Admin.doc. Admin.doc explains 
how to update your network installation site so that any future 
installations will include the updated components. Admin.doc is located
in the \Admin folder on the Windows 95 Service Pack 1 CD. 

NOTE! Do not install the Service Pack 1 Update English version on the
English Pan European version of Windows 95 or any other 
non-English version of Windows 95. If you install the Windows 95 Service
Pack 1 by mistake follow the instructions in the 
REMOVING THE SERVICE PACK 1 UPDATE section below.

DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS FOR SERVICE PACK 1
====================================
The Microsoft Window 95 Service Pack 1 downloadable version is shipped in
compressed format. To extract you must run Admin.bat.  Admin.bat is 
extracted in Step 3 below.   

NOTE
- Do not run the individual "Diskx.exe" files, use the Admin.bat file.
- Admin.doc, the Windows 95 Service Pack 1 Administrator Guide, is located
  in the \Admin folder on Disk 2. 

1. Create a new folder on your computer. 
2. Click "Disk 1" and choose to save it to the new folder. You must 
   download all of the disks (Disks 1-14) to a folder on your computer. 
   Save each to the same folder on your computer. 
3. Double-click Start.exe to extract the initial files. To see the files
   extracted from Start.exe, choose Refresh from the View menu.  
4. Double-click Admin.bat (extracted in previous step) to extract Windows 95 
   Service Pack 1 to your computer.  By default Admin.bat will create a 
   folder named C:\Sp1. Extract Service Pack 1 to this folder, or 
   specify a different folder that you would like to extract 
   Service Pack 1 to. 

5. To change the default installation folder, start an MS-DOS Prompt window.
   At the prompt, type Admin.bat followed by the name of the folder that you 
   downloaded the Service Pack disks to, followed by the name of the folder 
   you want to use. 

   Command line to change the default source and/or destination folder:

          Admin [x:\Srcdir y:\Destdir]

      examples:
          Admin a:  c:\Temp\Sp1        ;from floppy to c: drive
          Admin .  c:\Destdir          ;from current dir to c:\Destdir
          Admin g:\User\Mydir  .       ;from g: to current dir
          Admin g:\User\Mydir          ;from g: to c:\Sp1

   If the source folder is not specified, it will first look in the
   current folder.  If the files are not found, Admin.bat will then ask
   which floppy disk drive to try.

   If you want to use the current folder for the source, but specify a
   custom destination directory, use "." for the source directory.

INSTALLING THE SERVICE PACK 1 UPDATE
====================================
NOTE: Do not install the Service Pack 1 Update English version on the
English Pan European version of Windows 95 or any other International
version of Windows 95.

1. Quit any applications that are currently running. If you use the
   Microsoft Plus! System Agent, right-click the System Agent icon on 
   the toolbar, and then click Suspend System Agent.

2. Insert the Windows 95 Service Pack 1 CD or Disk 1.

3. Double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the instructions on your 
   screen.

NOTE
- Do not click Cancel during Setup; doing so might cause Setup to fail.
  This may be true even though a message is displayed stating that your
  system was updated successfully. 
- If you cancel Setup by mistake, run Setup again. If you are asked 
  "Do you want to overwrite the file:" click Yes To All. 

When the Setup.exe program completes, your version of Windows 95
will be updated to version 4.00.950a.

REMOVING THE SERVICE PACK 1 UPDATE
==================================

1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 

2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

3. Click the Install/Uninstall tab, click Windows 95 Service Pack 1, and
   then click Add/Remove.

4. Follow the instructions on your screen.

Installing Internet Explorer 2.0
--------------------------------
Upgrading to Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 is easy, whether you are already
using a version of Internet Explorer or whether you are using another 
Internet browser.

1. On the Windows 95 Service Pack 1 CD, open the \Internet folder.
   (If you have the floppy disk version, the \Internet folder is on 
   Disk 2.)

2. Double-click Msie20.exe, and then follow the instructions on your screen.

- The Online version of the Windows Driver Library is constantly updated
with the latest available drivers. If you have a modem or other access

version of your driver is available.

To install a new driver from the WDL
-------------------------------------
1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Add New Hardware.

3. When asked whether you want to search for your new hardware, click No.

4. Click the hardware type for the driver you are installing.

5. Click Have Disk.

6. Enter the location of the driver file.

7. Follow the instructions on your screen.


To upgrade existing drivers
----------------------------
1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2. On the Device Manager tab, double-click the device type and the 
   device you want to upgrade.

3. On the Driver tab, click Change Driver.

4. Click Have Disk.

5. Type the location of the driver file.

6. When prompted to insert the software installation disk, type the 
   location of the driver file.

7. Follow the instructions on your screen.

NOTE
- Not all devices have a Driver tab, and consequently there is no button 
to allow driver updating. In this case, it's best to follow the "To install 
a new driver" procedure above.
